Peebles Orchestra: Golden Jubilee Concert
Peebles Orchestra celebrates its 50th anniversary with a special Golden Jubilee Concert featuring a rich and vibrant programme. The evening opens with a newly commissioned work by local composer Graham Coe. Written especially for this occasion. The orchestra is also delighted to welcome internationally acclaimed violinist Colin Scobie as soloist for Brahms’ Violin Concerto. Now performing around the world, Colin began his musical journey with Peebles Orchestra, making his return a highlight of this celebratory year. The programme continues with Mendelssohn’s atmospheric Hebrides Overture, inspired by the composer’s travels to Fingal’s Cave, and concludes with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1—an energetic and joyful work that remains a milestone of the classical repertoire and was also played at the first concert Peebles Orchestra performed, half a century ago. This concert brings together past, present, and future: new music created in Peebles, a former young player returning as a distinguished soloist, and orchestral masterpieces that have inspired audiences for generations. It promises to be a memorable evening honouring 50 years of music-making. Led by Robert Dick, this promises to be a stellar concert from Peebles Orchestra.
