Having appeared with us in 2023 with her book The Cold Fix – a journey into the allure of cold-water swimming – Sara Barnes makes a welcome return with her first work of fiction: the story of three mid-life female friends who find solace from life’s challenges with each other and in the wild waters of the Lake District. Relatable, unflinching and often meditative, it’s an uplifting novel about friendship, how we feel about ageing, the healing power of nature and why we should all – and not just women – embrace the winter of our lives as the time of our lives!
