Legends of Irish music & song The Fureys have chosen Peebles to play their 2020 St Patrick’s day concert. The band renowned for hit songs including I Will Love You, When You Were Sweet 16 and The Green Fields of France, have been entertaining audiences worldwide for over 40 years. Their audiences have included former Australian Prime Minister John Howard, former Irish President Mary McAleese and the late Pope John Paul
The oldest of the brothers, Eddie Furey left home in 1966 and travelled to Scotland at the time of the great folk revival where he shared accommodation with then unknown folk singers Billy Connolly, Gerry Rafferty and Alex Campbell. A few years later, with his brother Finbar, he was the special guest on the Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem tour of the USA and Canada. From 1971 he toured from his base in mainland Europe. The Eurythmics’ Dave Stewart credits Eddie with teaching him his first chords on guitar.
