Originally crossing paths in the session scene of Cambridge, Orphean Sprig are an instrumental folk band with a shared passion for the traditional music of Scotland. Comprising a guitar, three fiddles, and occasional viola, they explore arrangements of traditional, contemporary, and self-penned tunes, creating a rich texture and original sound. As a nod to their beginnings, they like to include an element of spontaneity in performances, a characteristic of the sessions in which they met. Their debut EP ‘Wandering’ was released in summer 2023.

Orphean Sprig will be supported by local piping trio Tim’rous Beasties.

Ewan, Joe and Robert joined forces to form the Tim’rous Beasties smallpipes trio in 2022.  Ewan and Joe have played pipes and whistles for years whereas Robert is a more recent convert.  They play largely  for pleasure and whisky; mainly Scottish tunes, but also anything else that catches their fancy.  Over the years Ewan and Joe have played in a range of bands and groups.  Ewan takes on solo work and recently played for the First Minister.  They each play pipes made by the awesome Julian Goodacre.
