Brassed Off
Tweed Theatre’s latest production is Brassed Off by Paul Allen from the screenplay by Mark Herman Grimley is a small Yorkshire mining town in the grip of the 1984 strike. Lives centre on the pit, band, mates, family. Loyalties are tested, families riven, bailiffs take lives away. What survives? The play is set in 1994 as a memory of, and a memorial to, the strike’s cruel aftermath. Through this grim reality runs a seam of resilience, music and humour, with a love story. Recollected years later, with the chance of a musical triumph in the offing, the people pick over their wounds, looking forward and backwards in this masterful stage adaptation of the award-winning film. This amateur production of “Brassed Off” is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals Ltd. on behalf of Samuel French Ltd. www.concordtheatricals.co.uk
