Cleaner (Part-Time)

3 hours per day, 6 days per week (between 11pm – 9am)

Eastgate Theatre & Arts Centre is looking for a reliable, detail-orientated Cleaner to join our team. This role is essential in ensuring our building is clean, safe and welcoming for audiences, artists and participants each day.

We are recruiting either one person for an 18-hour contract or two people for 9 hours each.


About the Role

We are looking for an organised, reliable Cleaner to join the Eastgate team. The role covers the daily cleaning of the theatre, café, toilets, offices, backstage spaces and studio, alongside scheduled weekly deep-clean tasks.

This position is available as one 18-hour contract or two 9-hour contracts, shared between two people. Working hours are flexible within the window of 11pm–9am, allowing the building to be cleaned safely and without interruption.


Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness across all public, staff and backstage areas.
  • Carry out daily cleaning duties including toilets, foyer, café space, offices, dressing rooms, studio and circulation areas.
  • Complete weekly deep-clean tasks following the theatre’s cleaning schedule.
  • Vacuum and clean the auditorium and seating areas as required after performances.
  • Sweep and tidy the external entrance area each day.
  • Follow all health & safety and COSHH procedures relating to cleaning materials and equipment.
  • Report maintenance or repair issues promptly to the Duty Manager or management team.
  • Work independently and ensure all spaces are ready for the next day’s activity.

About You

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Reliable, trustworthy and able to work independently.
  • Organised, with strong attention to detail and pride in high cleaning standards.
  • Comfortable working in the building alone during quiet hours.
  • Able to follow cleaning schedules and procedures consistently.
  • A clear communicator who can report issues confidently.

Previous cleaning experience is desired.


Hours & Pay

  • 18 hours per week OR 2 x 9-hour posts available

  • 3 hours per day, 6 days per week

  • Hours worked between 11pm – 9am

  • £12.60 per hour (Real Living Wage) rising to £13.45 from 1 April 2026
