VISUAL ARTS

There are a number of different areas of the Eastgate where visual arts are exhibited.  The Anne Younger Studio is the main visual arts space, but there are also opportunities to hang work in the foyer and cafe areas.

All visual arts exhibitions are curated and the programme is co-ordinated by Cayleigh Gardner.   The easiest way to contact her is by  email at cayleigh@eastgatearts.com

As a child the worst punishment for me would be to remove my art materials; at the time coloured pencils. Throughout my school life I always sketched and painted, winning school prizes, but when it came to it, lacked the confidence needed for art school.

Instead I went into teaching which took me to London, Venice and Treviso in Italy, Fife and East Lothian and a successful business painting children’s furniture.

When I retired I had time to return to art and in particular the figure, painting mainly in oils and, when possible, from life.

After a Summer School at Leith School of Art I was encouraged by my inspirational tutor Kenneth Le Riche to study The Figure Course there. Heaven! I have learned and continue to learn so much there.

I have exhibited in solo and group exhibitions since then as well as selling online. There is no substitute for painting from life and seeing art in a gallery setting so I am delighted to be exhibiting in The Eastgate Theatre with my good friend Heather Coltman whom I met at LSA.

My hometown is Peebles in the heart of the Scottish Borders where I raised my two sons.

I was an interested student of Art first at Peebles High School then went on to gain a BSc. in Clothing Design and Manufacture at the Scottish College of Textiles in the 90’s.

I enjoy the visual arts in all their forms, love music and the written word. I attended Leith School of Art, where I met Elisabeth, under the tutelage of Kenneth Le Riche, Alan McGowan and Brigid Collins. I love to paint people and hope you enjoy the show.

Please note that the Anne Younger Studio is very busy with classes.  Please ‘phone ahead to check availability if you are planning a special trip to see the exhibition – 01721 725777
