A workshop about creating atmosphere in painting with a few colours
The power of a limited palette – creating atmosphere in painting with a few colours. When we understand how colours work in a painting just a few colours can be made to appear as many, and we discover how limiting our palette is the key to creating a strong atmosphere or mood. In this workshop we will explore how this works, and learn strategies for interpreting any subject in many different ways. Acrylic paints will be our medium, and these are included in the class, as well as the use of brushes, canvas and paper. However if you prefer to bring your own that is ok. The principles we will work with apply to all mediums such as gouache or oil paint. Part of our study will be from still life and photo references which will be supplied, but if you have a favourite photo or two please bring them along. A4 is a good size, and black and white will be more useful than colour. But bring what you have. If you intend to bring your own paints, please contact Bella via the contact form on her website www.bellagreen.co.uk to make sure you have the appropriate range of colours needed. She will send you a list if necessary.
