Early 18th century. England is at war with France. Nevertheless, duck racing and pineapple eating are thriving. A frail Queen Anne (Olivia Colman) occupies the throne while Lady Sarah Churchill (Rachel Weisz) governs the country and tends to Anne’s ill health and temper. Sarah is relieved when a new servant Abigail Masham (Emma Stone) arrives to help with the Queen, freeing her to deal with the politics of war. Abigail sees an opportunity, seizes it and nothing will stand in her way.
