Master musician James Yorkston presents a club night featuring a selection of today’s finest performers starting with the magnificent Jeffrey Lewis, extraordinary Kathryn Joseph and hilarious Josie Long.
Jeffrey Lewis’ sound is described as a mighty 21st Century mash-up of folksy spiel and artsy garage, like Pete Seeger meeting Sonic Youth.
Rave reviews have come from just about every corner of the music world, including publications like Rolling Stone, The New York Times, Uncut, Mojo and the NME.
Jeffrey is also an illustrator, and has written/drawn an ongoing comic book series called Fuff since 2004.
“A wordy force of nature… stirs you up with politics or knocks you sideways with sadness… ideas burst from Jeffrey Lewis like an overstuffed suitcase – strange ones, funny ones, poignant ones, usually a mixture…. kicking out ramshackle fuzzbomb jams… it’s difficult to imagine how any couple of hours spent in Lewis’s company couldn’t prove inspirational.” (****) – The Guardian
Kathryn will perform tracks from her brand new album For You Who Are the Wronged, the much anticipated follow-up to 2018’s From When I Wake the Want Is, and her 2014 debut Bones You Have Thrown Me and Blood I’ve Spilled, which won 2015’s Scottish Album of the Year award. If From When I Wake… was written for love to return, this is where she fights tooth and claw to protect it. And though her sparrow-boned musical structures are as slight and sparse framed as their singer – they burn with a fearsome new certainty.
Josie Long is a multi-award-winning comedian, writer, podcaster, and film-maker. She is a trailblazer of the UK comedy industry, as the first woman to be nominated 3 times for Edinburgh Comedy Award (2010 – 2012). Her 9 critically acclaimed tours showcase her unique and powerfully original voice and have been performed globally to sell-out shows. Her various podcasts and original radio shows have garnered her a world-wide audience of dedicated listeners and multiple awards.
