TWEEDDALE SOCIETY presents Penicuik House and it’s Designed Landscape
A talk by Sir Robert Clerk. Purchased in 1654, Penicuik House and grounds were designed by successive generations of the Clerk family and is one of the finest examples of Palladian architecture and designed landscapes in the UK. In 1899 the House was destroyed by fire and in 1985 a Trust was formed to consolidate the ruin. This work continues, restoring the many unique structures on the Estate.
Sir Robert, of the Penicuik House Preservation Trust, is also Lord Lieutenant of Midlothian.
The Charles Morrison Memorial Lecture.
