Antonio Banderas stars in this new film by writer-director Pedro Almodóvar drawing on his own life to rewarding effect — and honouring his craft as only a master filmmaker can.

The film tells of the experiences of a film director in his physical decline. Some of them in the flesh, others remembered: his childhood in the 60s, his first desire, his first adult love and the pain of the breakup, the early discovery of cinema, and the void – the incapacity to keep on making films.
