The Bach Ensemble of Edinburgh brings together some of Scotland’s best-known string players to perform music of the great masters of the Baroque era. Its concerts in Edinburgh’s Canongate Kirk have been highlights of the city’s Festival over several years.
Joining the string ensemble are one of Scotland’s foremost accompanists and continuo players, John Cameron and young Edinburgh flautist Hannah Foster, a BBC Young Musician finalist. Hannah is making a welcome early return to Peebles, having been a star of last season’s Patron’s Concert.
We will hear three string concertos from Vivaldi’s L’Estro Armonico set and one of Handel’s wonderful Opus 6 Concerti Grossi. Framing these are two iconic works by J.S. Bach, the second of his four Orchestral Suites and the fifth of his six Brandenburg Concertos, both featuring virtuosic writing for a solo flute.
