British/Romanian pianist Florian Mitrea was a double prize winner at the 2017 Scottish International Piano Competition, adding to an already vast array of global competition successes. Having studied in Bucharest and at London’s Royal Academy, where he now teaches, Florian has given concerto performances, chamber music concerts and solo recitals across Europe and in Asia and the USA.
In the first half of his recital for us, Florian marks the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s birth with two of his best-loved sonatas, the early ‘Pathétique’ and the middle-period ‘Waldstein’, considered one of his greatest. The second half is given over to two virtuosic showpieces by Liszt: the Gothic horror inspired second Ballade and the remarkable, revolutionary Sonata.
“…phenomenal technique and ravishing musical intelligence.” (Cambridge Independent)
“a super account of Liszt’s B minor Sonata.” (Seen and Heard International)
