Resol String Quartet
Music in Peebles presents… The outstanding young musicians of the Resol Quartet return with a programme of three works from three centuries. From the late 19th century, we have one of Puccini’s rare departures from the world of opera, his short, elegy ‘Crisantemi’. From 100 years earlier, we hear Mozart’s ‘Dissonance’ Quartet, so called from the tense, disorientating slow opening. Finally, from the mid-20th century, comes a work that Shostakovich considered among his finest, taking us from impish humour through all manner of unease, trauma and heart-rending grief to end in ‘a mysterious transformation into eternal light and conciliation’.
