MiP: Emanuil Ivanov
Prize-winning pianist as late replacement at Music in Peebles. There’s a replacement pianist for the Music in Peebles concert next week (1 October 7.30pm, Eastgate Theatre, Peebles) following the withdrawal of the Ukrainian pianist Khyrstyna Mykhailichenko, due to an injury to her hands. The replacement is Emanuil Ivanov from Bulgaria, currently an advanced diploma student at the Royal Academy of Music, studying with Joanna MacGregor and Christopher Elton, following a scholarship at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. He has received artistic guidance from, among others, Dmitri Bashkirov, Dmitri Alexeev, Stephen Hough and Peter Donohoe, and his performances have featured on Radio 3. “Emanuil is the winner of the 2019 Busoni Competition, and his performances have taken him to Japan, France, Germany and Austria, including a celebrated live-streamed recital from La Scala, Milan. Known for his elegant performances of late romantic music—and with a debut CD of Scarlatti sonatas—Emanuil is making his Wigmore Hall début later this month,” commented Joanna MacGregor. Emanuil’s programme will be:
Beethoven Sonata in D minor Op.31 no.2 ‘Tempest’
Shostakovich Preludes and Fugues nos.5, 14 and 15
Rachmaninov Nine Etudes-Tableaux op.39.
