After the long absence imposed by the Covid pandemic, Music in Peebles is back with the first of two planned Summer Special concerts.
There could be nobody more appropriate to end the silence and usher in the return of live chamber music than our Patron, the distinguished violinist Gina McCormack. We are delighted that Gina, together with Nigel Clayton, is able to join us for what is certain to be a joyful occasion.
Their programme consists of a delicious “French sandwich”! Enclosing the sandwich are a sonata by the Baroque composer Jean-Marie Leclair and the ever-popular sonata by Fauré. The filling is provided by works from America and Russia. To mark US Independence Day, we have the beautiful Romance written by American composer Amy Beach in 1893, and this is followed by a collection of five short, contrasting melodies by Prokofiev, written in 1925 and ranging from the ethereal to the turbulent and everything in between.
Do join us for this celebration of the triumphant return of chamber music to the Eastgate in the company of two of the UK’s foremost chamber musicians.
“…the players created a lovely ambience of serenity, Nigel Clayton’s piano notes falling away to silence.” (The Scotsman)
