A former stage, screen and TV actor, Victoria Hardcastle knows a thing or two about theatres – what works, what doesn’t work and what works even though it probably shouldn’t! In this interview with Christine Bruce, filmed in Victoria’s garden during lockdown, she explains how the Eastgate Theatre has become such an intrinsic part of Peebles and why it is so loved by performers and audiences alike.

As Victoria says, “A lot of those performers will not play anywhere else – it’s a perfect space for them. If you put those same performers, who have every right to be in somewhere big in one of the major cities in Scotland, it wouldn’t work, you lose that intimacy. That’s what the Eastgate gives you.”
