On Saturday 15th, for the first time, the Eastgate welcomes Scotland’s International Film Festival for Young People.  From 12noon – 1pm the new films have been created to entertain and introduce wee ones (from 3 years old) to the magic of cinema.  From 3pm – 4pm it is the turn of middle ones (from 8 years old).

On Sunday 16th the screenings are Festival Greatest Hits – wee ones from 12noon – 1pm, greatest hits for middle ones 3pm – 4pm.  See one or experience them all!

The blockbusters are all on Wednesdays, with matinees at 1pm and evening shows at 7.30pm.

The season opens with Sing, Sing Wed on the 2nd. Not to be confused with the brilliant cartoon, this film is a stirring true story of resilience, humanity, and the transformative power of art. It stars a man imprisoned for a crime he didn’t commit, who finds purpose by acting in a theatre group alongside other incarcerated men, including an unforgettable ensemble cast of formerly incarcerated actors

Kate Winslet is on record for saying that she doubted that her film Lee, about the American war correspondent and photographer Lee Miller, would ever be commissioned – 7 years later it is now on screen. Lee Miller’s singular talent and unbridled tenacity resulted in some of the 20th century’s most indelible images of war displaying both the fragility and ferocity of the human experience. On the 30th Academy Award Nominee Sir Ian McKellen stars in the suspenseful thriller The Critic. He is a powerful London theatre critic who lures a struggling actress into a blackmail scheme with deadly consequences. The film also stars Gemma Arterton, Mark Strong and Lesley Manville.

On Thursday 31st (at 7.30pm) Beetlejuice is back! Three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia’s life is turned upside down.  With trouble brewing, it’s only a matter of time until someone says Beetlejuice’s name three times and the mischievous demon returns to unleash his very own brand of mayhem.

The Eastgate’s annual celebration of all things bike returns on Friday 4th October when the Big Bike Film Night rides into town, with a 2.5 hour programme – a feast of short films devised and designed for the two-wheel devotee. Expect action, drama, humour, and plenty of inspiration.

On Wed 9th there is an opportunity to catch up with Jodie Comer’s, searing, acclaimed and multi award-winning performance in Prima Facie.

Jodie plays young, brilliant barrister Tessa who has worked her way up from working class origins to be at the top of her game; defending; cross examining and winning.  An unexpected event forces her to confront the split between the patriarchal power of the law the loves, the burden of proof and morality.

Another female taking audiences into fascinating places is Alice, who races down the rabbit hole and into Wonderland in the Royal Ballet’s classic interpretation of Lewis Carroll’s famous family story.  Hip-hop meets ballet in an explosion of colour, choreography and extravagant design.
