The two multi-award winning singers and musicians have joined forces for the latest in the series of Eastgate on the Road events programmed to take high quality arts events and performances out of Peebles and into surrounding rural communities.  Each event is programmed as a partnership between the Eastgate Theatre in Peebles and representatives of the local community and most incorporate artistic and event planning workshops.

Rachel specialises in interpreting traditional folk songs in both English and Gaelic as well as writing and arranging her own music. She plays fiddle and viola in addition to harp and works across a range of performance platforms including theatre and storytelling.   She was awarded Instrumentalist of the Year 2016 at the Scots Trad Music Awards and Musician of the Year in the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards 2017. Her album Here’s My Heart Come Take It was shortlisted as one of Scotland’s top 10 outstanding albums in the Scottish Album of the Year (SAY) Award 2017.

Lauren MacColl is one of Scotland’s most expressive fiddle players. Her performances are a mix of tradition and technique described by the Scotsman as a wealth of dynamic variety and colour, …a balance of fire and lyricism, vivacity and elegance.  Originally from the Black Isle, she continues to be inspired by old music from her home area. In 2004 she won the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award as a soloist. Four years later her album When Leaves Fall was named ‘Classic Album‘ of Celtic Connections Festival and in 2009 her album Strewn with Ribbons won her the title Instrumentalist of the Year at The MG Alba Scots Trad Music Awards.
