Watch out for the ever changing exhibitions of work, usually by more than one artist, hung in the Eastgate Cafe/Foyer.

The cafe is open 10am – 5pm Monday – Saturday, from 6.30pm on performance evenings and from 12.30 on Film Sundays.

A selection of watercolour paintings by Julie Morris

Watercolourist Julie Morris bases her work on local scenery and architecture. Her recent landscapes are focused on the open spaces of the lowlands in the South of Scotland which includes the soft hills, the rivers and the countryside.

“I like to have a contrast in my landscapes. A lot of light and dark and some strong colour to bring the painting together”.

Julie uses watercolour paints that contain semi-precious stones such as Tiger’s eye, Hematite and Sodalite. These add interesting earthy textures and granulation to each piece. Sometimes she will add 23ct gold leaf and genuine silver leaf. She always works on thick handmade paper.

The Scottish Borders have a great importance to Julie because her Grandparents lived in Selkirkshire and she has always enjoyed the history of the area and the beautiful countryside.
