Peebles Outdoor Film Festival 2018

The Peebles Outdoor Film Festival, a high-energy celebration of outdoor and mountain culture, returns in January with another feast of adventure films, exciting speakers and exhilarating hands-on sessions.

Building on Success

Members attending the Eastgate Theatre Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 15 November were told of record attendances, up more than 14% across 200 events staged in the main auditorium and studio during the year. Attendance figures for classes in a range of arts disciplines, including visual arts and crafts, music and dance, also increased by 13%.

Story of a Man and a Monastery

Known for its fortnightly offerings of mainstream cinema releases, the Eastgate Theatre goes all independent on Thursday with a screening of Akong, a Remarkable Life – the extraordinary story of a Tibetan Buddhist master who fled his homeland and co-founded Samye Ling in Eskdalemuir, the first monastery of its kind in the west.

From the Desert Born

Curious and excited in equal measure, when audiences at this year’s Celtic Connections first encountered 3hattrio, a slightly strange, hybrid band born in the Utah desert, they didn’t know quite what to expect. But after a sublime evening in the company of Hal Cannon, Greg Istock and Eli Wrankle, they soon discovered that the trio’s unlikely combination of old-time Americana, chamber music and jazz creates something rather delicious.

This year the Creative Peebles Festival awarded the Robert Noble Trophy to Kids Innerleithen Youth Theatre (KIYT) – an organisation set up just 18 months ago to teach and encourage young people (aged 8-15) from across the district in music, drama, dance and stage craft.

Eastgate Plans Progress

Plans to extend the footprint and develop the infrastructure of the Eastgate Theatre in Peebles took a major step forward this week with the announcement that the Big Lottery Fund has agreed to fund the initial phase of work leading towards a capital project.
