Finance Manager

Up to 18 hrs a week

The Eastgate, the busiest arts venue in the South of Scotland, is seeking a qualified accountant to act as Finance Manager to provide a full range of accounting support.

An ambitious building improvements programme is underway, with work on the auditorium due to commence in summer 2019; all the finance for this part of the project is now in place.

The salary for the post is negotiable dependent on the agreed hours to be worked, and a flexible working from home arrangement is possible. The job description is below. Finance Manager  –  Job Description

The Eastgate Theatre and Arts Centre, which was established 14 years ago, is a small but thriving and growing organisation which sets high expectations of itself and is gaining a great reputation for quality arts performances and creative programming in parallel with innovative community social engagement.

To date contracted financial services and support has been in place. The Board of Trustees are now seeking to fill a newly created position of Finance Manager, working to the General Manager and reporting directly to the Board.

The Finance Manager will be responsible for the following:

1. General

  • Reviewing and monitoring financial resources and analysing both revenue and capital financial performance to ensure that present and future needs are met
  • Developing and keeping under review financial plans and budgets and regularly seeking improvements and efficiencies
  • Ensuring that proper financial controls are in place
  • Monitoring and evaluating financial information systems
  • Liaising with the Company`s bankers, auditors and independent examiners
  • Liaising with the Chair of the Board and/or his nominated Trustee

2. Specific

  • Carrying out a full book-keeping function, preparing monthly management accounts including detailed profit and loss and balance sheet.
  • Managing, monitoring and reviewing cash flow
  • Dealing with VAT issues
  • Ensuring that all financial transactions are properly recorded and reported
  • Reviewing cost centres for the main activities with appropriate apportionment of costs
  • Reviewing utilities, insurances and other annual contracts
  • Reviewing and updating accounting systems including arrangements for payroll and invoicing
  • Establishing and implementing financial reporting systems in compliance with legal requirements
  • Other relevant financially related duties as may be required from time to time

Qualifications: An accountancy qualification is essential

Salary: The salary for the position is negotiable

Hours of working: Flexible – anticipated max 18 hours a week

Place of Work: Can be home based attending theatre as and when required.
