One of our great fundraising events is coming up soon – PLEASE SUPPORT IT by getting a team together from an organisation you belong to, or maybe a group of friends/family. It’s always fun !

QUIZ NIGHT  Friday 20th April    7.30pm at the Eastgate

Tickets £6 per person. (Teams of 5 max)

Impromptu teams will be organised on the night if you are not in a pre-arranged team. So please rally friends, work colleagues and organisations you belong to. It is always a good night out though competition is fierce! Some raffle prizes would be much appreciated for this event (please leave at the Box Office so we can put them in the Friends cupboard)

Further news from the Friends can be found below these 2 for 1 offers…………

2 FOR 1 OFFERS ……………….. especially for you! Please support these performances – bring a friend, partner, someone off the street……they will love it!

Music: Kirsy Law, Young Night Thought

Thursday 5 April     7.30pm     £14 for both tickets

“Beautiful and feisty… it’s a joy to hear a young singer and writer in Scots with such earthy and conversational character to her singing and songs…” Karine Polwart. Kirsty will perform with pedal harpist Esther Swift  and drummer Owen Curtis Williams.

Drama: The Monster and Mary Shelley

Friday 4 May    7.30pm     £14 for both tickets
At the age of 18, having recently watched her premature baby die, Mary Shelley has a waking dream and begins to write a story that will haunt and define her for the rest of her life.  The Monster and… explores the life of Mary Shelley – the gothic girl who electrified the world.

Comedy: Fred MacAulay 30 Years On

Friday 8 June   7.30pm    £15 for both tickets

Fred’s set, mixing personal family anecdotes and wry observations about society and politics, has fuelled a 30 year career that has taken him into television on QI, Have I Got News For You and Mock The Week, and radio with his own show on Radio Scotland , as well as Radio 4’s Newsquiz, The Unbelievable Truth and Just A Minute

It’s a long time ago now (despite still being winter!)…..Before Christmas, Santa was visited by 70 children. It was a magical event and raised over £200
The theatre also laid on a wonderful Christmas party and we raised £322 from the raffle.

‘Friends Sharing Food’ is a wonderful fundraising idea, with various events taken place. One of the most recent was in Manor Village Hall, where a Soup Lunch was organised by Claire Garnett and friends. It raised over £400 , so well done to Claire, her friends and the musicians too!

So why not invite your friends and neighbours and provide cake and coffee, lunch, buffet, dinner, cheese and wine – you choose what to do! With the invitation explain it’s a fundraiser for Friends of the Eastgate. Ask people for a minimum donation e.g. £4-£5 for cake and coffee, dinner £10 plus. Get guests to bring drink! This is win win as money is raised, a good time is had and your guests may be inspired to hold an event. Please let Christine Bruce know if you are hosting an event.

For those of you who receive their invitations to renew their subscriptions, there is a slight change to the form. The membership stands at £25 at the moment and will remain so for the foreseeable future but for those who see themselves as ‘long term’ members and are happy to pay more now, there is the option available to pay for 5 years for only £100. When you complete the form,  please tick over the figure you wish to subscribe.

GIFT MEMBERSHIP……….  Following on from the Christmas Gift pack idea, we are now introducing this all year round! So if you are stuck what to buy for a friend or family member, why not give them a year’s subscription to the Eastgate? Packs now available from the Box Office

Friends are paying for a part time administrator for 6 months. This is to support the development project at the Eastgate (£3000)
We are about to pay for boiler repairs, switch gear, torches for ushers and an A3 printer. Exact costings are not available as yet.  As we write this, the theatre also has another ‘shopping list’, all good things required to keep the theatre running!
The prize draw has now taken place. The winner is ELIZABETH GRAY who will shortly be receiving her seasonal prize (a spring one, not a winter one!)

A date of Wed.1st August has been set. This will be at 2pm in the theatre.
More information nearer the time, but there’s no excuse now, so please put it in your diary!

Please also keep an eye on the Friends noticeboard for up to date news. Remember we have a pigeon hole at the theatre and any ideas you have would be much appreciated.
