THE THEATRE PROGRAMME
The new PROGRAMME (Apr-Jun ) is now published. Enjoy reading the programme and make sure to get some dates in the diary and the tickets booked!
In this new programme, the special 2 FOR 1 EVENTS for Friends are as follows - so PLEASE support them! It's a great discount for Friends, with some wonderful performances to enjoy!
MUSIC.... IMAR Thurs 20th April 7.30pm £14
This five piece is Glasgow’s hottest new folk property. In just one year their debut video has been viewed more than 200,000 times - whilst their touring credits already include the opening set at 2016 Cambridge Folk Festival and Belgium’s Dranouter Festival just a week later. Imar is Adam Brown (bodhrán), Adam Rhodes (bouzouki), Mohsen Amini (concertina), Ryan Murphy (uilleann pipes) and Tomás Callister (fiddle). Their unmistakable synergy, however, centres on the overlapping musical heritage of Scotland, Ireland and the Isle of Man. Visit www.imarband.com for more details.
MUSIC.... BUDAPEST CAFE ORCHESTRA Tue 9th May 7.30pm £14
Led by jazz violin superstar Christian Garrick, the BCO evokes vivid images of Tzigane fiddle maestros, Budapest café life and gypsy campfires - plus a few surprises along the way: good enough to make you want to book that holiday down the Danube! Expect surprises, diversions and adventures along the way. Their infectious energy will sweep you off your feet and stay in your heart forever. [Cabaret style]
DRAMA.... BLOOD OF THE YOUNG & TRON THEATRE Wed 31st May 7.30pm £14
Performing Daphne Oram’s 'Wonderful World of Sound'. In 1942, 17 year old Daphne Oram founded the world-famous BBC Radiophonic Workshop and reshaped the entire development of electronic music. A pioneer of sound who cut a trailblazing path through uncharted musical territory. Her story is told by award-winning ensemble Blood of the Young who have teamed up with SAY-nominated sound artist Anneke Kampman to explore the life and ideas of a true innovator who sacrificed everything for her art. This play is a visually arresting journey through Daphne’s life.
Thanks to all members whose subscriptions were due over the last couple of months. A new batch will be going out at the beginning of March and then April and so on. When you receive your new card, please place it in your wallet/somewhere safe and then remember to fill in the form and send your subscription as soon as you can. Otherwise, people forget and wonder why their name is not at the Box Office! Some of you who have latterly ticked the Gift Aid box may well receive a form to fill in to satisfy ‘officialdom’. If you receive one to fill in, it would be greatly appreciated if you could address this matter at your convenience and return it to the Theatre. Please consider whether you wish to ‘Opt In’ this year if you have not already done so. By ticking the relevant box, you will be able to attend the Eastgate AGMs and consequently, be more involved in the Theatre which is such an asset to the town.
